New EHT Vision Statement
Written by the EHT Team
The trafficking of humans existed centuries before Christ and, unfortunately, continues today. Very simply, human trafficking is the exploitation of a person for profit. Aglow International has had an Anti-Human Trafficking Ministry for approximately 15 years.
The Ministry, with its foundation of prayer, has evolved, and Nancy McDaniel, while retaining the prayer anchor, is committed to refocusing, expanding, increasing the number of members engaged, and transforming prayers into actions.
Aglow updated the name of the Ministry to End Human Trafficking, and the Vision Statement is as follows:
The Vision for Aglow International’s End Human Trafficking Ministry is to DEFEAT human trafficking around the world. This will involve victims, traffickers, law enforcement, service providers, advocates, buyers, families, churches, and schools. Ending Human Trafficking will be accomplished through prayer, public awareness, partnering with anti-trafficking organizations, supporting law enforcement, advocating for stronger laws, giving of time and resources, and ending demand. Aglow International’s vast network will take action to inspire people to help erase this evil throughout the world.
Human trafficking takes place in every nation, trapping millions of people, young and old, and involves billions of dollars in many currencies. It takes many forms, including sex and labor trafficking, child abuse, organ harvesting, and financial or benefits trafficking.
With advancing technology, human trafficking has become increasingly sophisticated, as many trafficking relationships and threats now begin online. Intentional grooming of young people, often beginning online, results in their becoming trafficking victims. Almost everyone has a smartphone in their purse or pocket. Social media, apps, games, and messaging platforms allow traffickers to reach children directly. Commercial sex and labor purchases often take place electronically. Artificial Intelligence enables children to create and become victims of pornography.
While taking place globally, Ending Human Trafficking must take place locally in every city, town, and community. For this reason, Nancy asked each U.S. Regional Director to designate a person within that region to be devoted to ending human trafficking to increase the level of attention across the nation at the Regional, State, Area, and Lighthouse levels. As Nancy stated when she requested participation: “so we in Aglow America can cast wider, more effective, and proactive prayer across our nation.”
In the coming months, we will be working to revise brochures, update the End Human Trafficking website, begin a Trafficking Newsletter, provide End Trafficking t-shirts, create and use Facebook and social media to provide more relevant and current information, and share/collaborate with other Aglow ministries and other nations.
