With a Wagon and a Canopy
The Las Vegas, NV, Community Lighthouse is three months away from their first anniversary. President Mary Willette and her teammates are well on their way to making their group a visual aid of God’s Kingdom on earth as they reach out to those in their community.
Mary recently explained that the vision of Las Vegas Aglow is to create platforms that ignite passion for God and His Kingdom. One of these platforms is providing a Canopy of Prayer. She said, “The Lord put this on hearts in December 2025 when students on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus were responding to prayer. We had been talking with UNLV students and passing out flyers at our monthly meeting since October.”
As Mary began to share the vision for the Canopy of Prayer, others thought it was great, but when she said it was going to cost around $1000, there was usually silence or an exclamation, “That’s a lot of money.” But $1000 is nothing for our God.
Mary and her team had no idea where the money would come from, but they trusted the Lord to provide, and He did! At the beginning of April, He provided the entire amount for the canopy and a wagon to transport it! It took another two weeks for the canopy tent to be made and sent. What a special day it was on April 24th to set it up at the UNLV Free Zone and reach out to the students!
Mary said, “I want to encourage us with the words of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who spoke to the servants at the wedding, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.’ We must believe the Lord when He speaks something to our hearts, that He will provide what is needed to bring it to pass. Nothing is impossible with our God! We must trust Him and not listen to the silence or words that may challenge what He has spoken. We are to fill the water pots! He will do the rest! He will turn the water into wine! Our Jesus is passionate about us coming into a place of great trust and faith, because He is passionate about people coming to know His love and the plan and the purpose He has for their lives.”
The Lighthouse team knows that they have yet to see all that God has in mind with the Canopy of Prayer, but for sure, it is the beginning of something bigger than them and all for His Glory!
On the first day they set up the Canopy of Prayer, it was Take Your Children to Work Day. A mother who worked at the college was so delighted to see them. She was with her two young sons, and as Mary joined hands with them, the oldest son led out in prayer.
Mary said, “What a blessing it was for us to speak with many of the students and pray with several. One student had a serious prayer request for the healing of her brother, who is suffering from depression. Another young woman was very concerned about the relationship with her boyfriend and wanted it restored. While passing out flyers for our upcoming meeting, I spoke with a young man who was very honest about no longer being committed to Christ. He said he made this decision five years ago. As I listened to his reasons, the love of God filled my heart and our conversation. At one point, I found an opening and let him know that he may have left Jesus, but Jesus had never left him. Before heading to his next class, he expressed sincere appreciation for our talk.” Only God knows the impact being made on these university students, and eternity will tell.
