Amazing Grace

This year, Jill Meskimen was honored at the California Aglow Prison Ministry Retreat for 30 years of service – a feat not accomplished by another in the 43 years of prison ministry in Aglow. This retreat marked the 33rd annual event and was well attended by women who have been transformed by the power of God’s love. 

Friday night began with dinner before moving into the Chapel, where a powerful time of worship and prayer was followed by a message from Karen Quadara. 

Saturday began with a full breakfast; then Lucinda Barrios gave a message. The Spanish team performed a special praise dance, too.

Saturday afternoon was hosted by Suzy Mellon and Viola Anderson, who oversaw testimonies from those attending. There were many stories told of God’s redeeming love. 

Saturday night, Julia Pearson sang different types of worship songs to demonstrate that we can praise even when life hurts. Debra Mumma was the speaker. Everyone had an opportunity to shop at the store where the proceeds help support scholarships for those attending this special weekend. After the service, the ladies gathered around a campfire for more worship and s’mores! It was a perfect evening for all attending.

Sunday mornings are always bittersweet as it is time to leave. Jenny Travis spoke, and the group shared communion before last hugs and goodbyes. 

Since the first Aglow California Prison Retreat, women have come in one way and left changed by the goodness of God. In His Presence there truly is fullness of joy. Broken hearts are mended. Hard hearts are softened. Hopelessness is overturned as Truth sets those once held in captivity free. Thank God for the faithfulness of Aglow women to reach out behind locked doors with the Gospel message.
