In the Middle With You

In the Middle With You

Our new Global Prayer Director, Helen Joy Duperree, recently shared an insight from a time when she was struggling with her identity.

“While I was still struggling with my identity, I can remember reading the scripture mentioned in the opening thoughts from Isaiah 59. “When the enemy comes in like a flood,” was all I saw. I was fixed on what the enemy was doing. I was filled with fear. I hadn’t experienced the love of the Father that would set me free. So, fear struck a chord in my heart. And over and over, fear worked in my thoughts, denying me the full understanding of that verse.

Then came the day when the Father broke into that lie through a song playing on the radio. It wasn’t a worship song. It wasn’t even about the Lord.

It was a 70’s song called, “Stuck in the Middle with You.” And when the song played, I had this breakthrough understanding that Jesus was on one side. The Father was on the other. And I was stuck right in the middle of Them! And I was free! God will remove everything standing in the way of His affections toward us!

Today, I understand the verse in a much richer way! Today, when the enemy comes, I am looking for the move of the Father toward me! The fear is gone! I am stuck in the middle of the Father and the Son! May you know the unrelenting love of the Father that chases away every trace of the enemy.”

If you are struggling with your identity and you find that your eyes are more focused on what the enemy is doing rather than what the Father has promised you, lift up your hands and pray this simple prayer that Helen Joy wrote:

Father, thank You that You have placed us in-between You and Jesus. The enemy can’t reach us because we are hidden in You. Thank You that You break in to rescue us from every enemy! Amen.

For more on this special in-between place described by Graham Cooke as the place of First Love, enjoy a message he gave on this very subject. This document includes a skit at the end that can be used to visually demonstrate being ‘stuck in the middle of God and Jesus’. And to learn how to prepare an identity statement.
