Prayer and Evangelism
by Linda Jones, Director US Field Administration
We have often said that Aglow was and is built upon the foundations of prayer and evangelism. We are known for prayer in the nations, and we are known for evangelism. We are also familiar with the words of Jesus in Mark 16:15, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” And, I believe it was Brother Andrew who said, “And, use words if necessary.”
As the US Leadership Team met in February, we talked about the importance of prayer once again. All around us, creation groans for the sons of God to arise and walk in the full authority He has given us to release the plans of Heaven into the earth realm.
A decision was made to add responsibilities for prayer to the VP of Ministry Development on the Area Team. Her new title will be VP Ministry Development, Resources, and Prayer. The job description will soon be updated to include leading prayer for the Area, along with nurturing and encouraging the development of a Prayer Chairman in each Lighthouse. Hopefully, that new job description will be available by April 17th. Check back then on the Aglow Leader Resources page on aglow.org. https://aglow.org/leader-resources/
On Saturday, I saw the movie “A Great Awakening”. If you haven’t seen it, I want to encourage you to find a theater where it is showing and take a group to see it, or go by yourself. It is one of the most profound visual aids reenacting the time surrounding the Continental Congress meeting to finalize the Declaration of Independence. I believe that if there had not been Divine intervention between a rising, young evangelist, George Whitefield, and his friendship with Ben Franklin, those 13 colonies would have missed their greatest opportunity to establish our foundational governmental documents upon Biblical principles.
George Whitfield and Benjamin Franklin became close friends during that time. George constantly asked Benjamin. Who is your source? For most of his life, Benjamin thought he was his own source and relied on himself. It is a great question to ask ourselves – we must know the answer.
Prayer and evangelism are foundations from which the life of every Aglow group must flow. We must be the House of Prayer for all nations, and we must win the lost to Christ. May God’s great love for the world be your source of compassion and strength.
In the Grip of Christ,
Linda Jones
