North Carolina-West Area Team
Recently, Gloria Randles, VP of Administration, North Carolina-West Area Team, sent us a follow-up on the progress that has been made in places in North Carolina devastated by flash floods caused by remnants of Hurricane Helena. As Gloria said, progress has been slow, and families are still working to get the basic necessities.
Gloria said, “Aglow family gathered, and it was apparent that the event was orchestrated by the Lord. His Presence was with us as we met on Vinnie Holmen’s porch at “The Stream” in Hendersonville, NC, on September 27, 2025. This was the one-year anniversary after the storm. Groups were meeting across the region where the storm struck Western North Carolina.
We prepared by meeting with members of the old Asheville Aglow: Vinnie Holman, Karen Norris, and Carmelita Calverson. We asked them to help us find a couple of people who might need help to recover from the storm.
Karen had already been given 3 quilts from a friend in Bluffton, SC, to give out to those who had suffered losses from Helene. We began to call the quilts ‘comforters’ for they were to bring comfort to those who received them.
While out, Vinnie met two sisters at the auto shop while they were having work done on their cars. They had lost their home during Helene, but God preserved their lives in a miraculous story that was reported in the local news.
We began the event on the front porch of Vinnie’s place, with Diane Teague opening the event with prayer. Vinnie began to lead worship, and we began to feel the Presence of the Lord with us. This precious time was followed by declarations that Franklin Lighthouse president, Marybeth Kaye, made. She printed out one for each of us to declare together over Western NC.
Our knowledge grew as we learned the burden of those who lost everything, yet still had to completely repay their prior loans. Imagine how difficult that makes it for people to begin again. Our Area President, Diane, prayed a powerful scripture prayer for debt forgiveness, provision, and generosity to be poured out over the people whose lives had been upended by Helene, that they may rebuild after the storm. Carmelita was hard at work for the cleanup after the storm, while she also covered us in prayer.
We had heard about the Prophetic quilts that Gina Gholston, speaker at our Mid-Atlantic Conference, had described in her dream. God used these comforters as mantles for healing a deep sense of loss and grief. Karen prayed over all the quilts, asking God to accept them as mantles for these ladies to have recovery and restoration that only God can give. The sisters, Jackie and Cynthia, received 2 quilts, one we declared as a Mantle of Recovery for all of Western North Carolina, as we covered them with the Comforter. Then a Quilt was given to Vinnie Holman, our host and worship leader. Her quilt was called the Mantle of Revival, and as we placed it over her shoulders, we declared revival for all of Western NC.
Janice Stocks, our VP of Finance Development, had collected $2500 from Lighthouses and Aglow women from Virginia to North Carolina to help these ladies to supply their homes with appliances, Kitchen gadgets, sheets, and towels. She was also reminded of a group in Virginia named “God’s Pit Crew,” which provides homes and furnishes them. The sisters had a friend who promised to build a Quonset Hut for them as soon as local officials approved a site on her land. Thankfully, God’s Pit Crew agreed to complete the provision of furniture and put it all together for these ladies’ new home.
Finally, Native American Coordinator, Shirlee Frisbee, was asked to pray for the Native Americans in Western North Carolina. She prayed for the Hearts of Native Americans to turn back to God and for God’s provision for our First Nations people in our State. She asks that God would turn the eyes of our leaders to see the needs of the First Nations people and to bring healing and restoration to them, also to bring them from poverty to a thriving people group, that they might take their place in the next great awakening.
We ended our meeting by singing Amazing Grace to our Lord and Savior, our God and our King.
This was followed by our going out to a restaurant to bless a business that was shut down by Helene, as a way of blessing and encouraging them since they recently opened a couple of months ago. It was a token of what was needed in the businesses whose livelihood was interrupted, even stopped by the storm.”
As we do about our daily lives that may not have been interrupted by a natural disaster, follow Holy Spirit’s lead as He prompts you to pray over regions of the world that are experiencing great crisis.
Praise Hashem for His Presence and provision 🔥
