Six Expressions of the Church

by Kathy Sanders, Director of Strategic Resources and Projects

In Graham Cooke’s 2014 conference in Albuquerque, NM, he spoke on the six expressions of the Church. As many know, the Greek word for Church is Ecclesia, a called-out company of people who are given specific purposes to achieve on earth. Graham went on to say that each expression or identity of the Church has a defined purpose that requires specific leadership, training, and resources. He also said that every Ecclesia will showcase the different expressions so that we are all growing up into a place of fullness in Christ, especially as the harvest is coming in.

I’ll mention the six expressions, and then you can click on the link to the full message Graham gave. Things that you possibly did not understand 11 years ago will make perfect sense today because you have grown in understanding and experience of who God’s people really are in the earth and how He expects us to walk in our God-given identity as sons and daughters made in His image, given His authority, and provided a full inheritance through Christ. Perhaps you will grasp more fully the importance of your Aglow group in your community.

The first expression is the Household of Faith, where relationships are key. The next expression is the Army of the Lord, where we are called to warfare. As God’s Army, we are disciplined and a house of prayer for all nations. The third expression is the Bride of Christ. The fourth is the Body of Christ. The fifth is a City set on a Hill. The last expression is the Temple of the Lord.

As you pause and reflect on the different expressions of the Ecclesia, ask Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see how these expressions are woven into your life. You might even set aside time to reflect on the 32 keys pointed out in the message. Here are a couple of the keys. Key 6: We must understand the culture of the Kingdom because the Kingdom is our main intention. Key 11: The Church is not a rescue operation. It is a training ground to raise up soldiers and warriors that know how to overcome evil with Goodness, know how to take territory and keep it, and know how to repair the ruin and devastation caused through the generations. One more, Key 14: Aglow is rich in Grace and is able to call down Grace in every community of the world, bringing opportunity for mass revival. Read the complete message.

I encourage you to go through this message with your team or a group of friends as 2026 begins and take time to work through the thought-provoking discussion questions. Read the discussion questions.

Merry Christmas and happy discovery as you refresh your memory of the six expressions of the Ecclesia.
