God is doing a new thing in the Zip Code Club
Last year, Aglow did a 10-part story on the formation of the Zip Code Club, a strategy birthed by Holy Spirit to bring in missing generations of Aglow children and grandchildren and new faces of a generation we have been called to walk with.
Our new Global Prayer Directory, Helen Duperree, was quick to obey Holy Spirit’s direction. She jumped in a makeshift bus (a large SUV) and headed out to meet with the adult children and their children whose Aglow mothers (grandmothers) passed during the COVID pandemic. From those meetings, relationships were formed, prayers were prayed, and a new generation came forth to take their places in Aglow by initially praying for everyone who lived in their zip code. Just like anything God touches, it grows and grows and grows, and today, the Zip Code Club has become a group of powerful intercessors.
Listen in as Helen Duperree shares what the Lord has been stirring in His kids since last year.
“God is doing a new thing in the Zip Code Club! We just celebrated our first year of prayer calls and zip codes and stickers and books, and friendships! Looking back, who can know how God will move? The kids’ weekly call has become like a filling station for old and young alike. Actually, though it’s centered on the kids, I have a 90-year-old who listens in and loves it. There are 80-year-olds who are curious. There’s a 70-year-old, Gigi, who comes on with her granddaughter. I step into the 60-year category – and it’s the highlight of my week! Maybe there’s no 50-year-old, but there are some 40s and 30s and teens and children all the way down to 2!
The children are being trained up through zip code prayers and learning how to pray for a zip code, a county, a state, a nation, and the world. They are learning decrees. They are learning the language of the Spirit and pray in their prayer languages. They are learning how to pray for healing. They are learning how to pray over situations that arise – like fathers who are away from home and daughters who miss them. Like farm issues with animals and giving birth, and gardens that need to grow. Like teachers and classmates who bully, and praying for God’s protection over those being bullied.
We are growing together each week as we all take turns leading. We pair off, the older with the younger, just as Titus 2 talks about. Some of the growth has come in ways that are of the Spirit, which just can’t be measured:
- Two sisters (15 & 12) who are learning how to cope with their father’s recurring cancer. There is no mother, yet their gifts are surfacing!
- Two 12-year-olds who stay over at each other’s homes and plan how they can have more prayer calls and kick off having a Zip Code Zoom!
- A family of 4 children between 4—13 gets neighbors they’ve been praying for, and there are 4 children almost exactly the same ages!
- A 15-year-old sings over the children on the call – pouring in a mother’s love she never received!
- A new guy, Ezekiel, comes on the call because his friend and neighbor, who is the target of bullying, invites him!
Us adults get as much out of listening to their simple yet powerful prayers as the children get out of us surrounding them and hemming them in!
I don’t know where God will take it from here, but there is a new buzz of excitement in the air as we’ve gone from praying once a week to a call plus a Zoom meeting in a week. And each week more are coming on.
One of our Zip Code captains, who actually is like a county liaison for Aglow in that state, has utilized her mail route to look for children who are in need. She has a prayer list of over 30 children she is praying will come into the Zip Code Club! We are seeing some of them come in! Not only are they coming in, but they are meeting in the park several times a week, with their moms! God is going after entire families!!!!!! And we’ll take ‘em, Aglow!!!! There have been 3 new mother/daughter relationships in the past month. So look for an explosion among the younger generations in the days to come! And who knows besides the Lord what will happen now that we have gone to Zoom calls!!!!
Let’s pay attention because Aglow’s population is beginning to increase in number! And watch for your Lighthouses to begin booming once again in this New Day and New Era of Aglow!”
Helen Duperree lives in Maryland, but travels to Pennsylvania almost every day, and if you have a Lighthouse near her, invite her to speak about this group. Maybe one of the young intercessors will be able to come, too. And if you live too far away from MD and PA to invite Helen to speak, set up a Zoom call for her to Zoom into your Lighthouse meeting. What a great way to give new ideas to those attending your meetings, AND just maybe they will go home and get their grandchildren involved.
