eNews – Let’s Show Them Jesus

Christian and secular news stories, and social media videos/podcasts continue to speak of Gen Z’s (born 1997-2010) notable shift in their engagement with the Christian church. Gen Z is not only demonstrating a growing openness to faith, but this move of the Holy Spirit is literally shifting (reversing) this generation from what was often labeled the “least religious generation” to what may be one of the fastest growing Christian generations in decades.

In the United States, statistics are even showing data that may be the clearest indication of meaningful spiritual renewal. Many are pointing towards the statistics noting what looks like the start of a revival! A quote from the Barna Group (a Christian research company) states, “this is the clearest trend we’ve seen in more than a decade pointing to spiritual renewal- and it’s the first time Barna has recorded such spiritual interest being led by younger generations.” The biggest drivers of this “Jesus Resurgence” are younger generations – particularly Gen Z and Millennials.

Next Steps for Aglow:

Let’s show them Jesus. Become mentors, (they are looking for trusted adult role models navigate their faith journey). Help them understand and apply biblical teachings. Create opportunities for young believers to participate and lead (let them utilize their gifts!). Create safe spaces for them to openly discuss their struggles and anxieties (without fear of judgment- this includes identity struggles). Instead of approaching younger generations as projects, build genuine friendships (share meals, conversations, etc.).

Seek to understand their experiences, and perspectives (genuinely hear their ideas- like the rest of us…they want to be heard and seen). Finally, prioritize prayer! Pray for their faith, challenges, and anxieties. YOU play a vital role in empowering the faith of Gen Z and Millennial Christians! Show THEM so they know how to show Gen Alpha (born 2010-2024) and Beta (born 2025+).
