Be Brave and Try Something New

Last year, Beth Cameron, Idaho State Prayer Coordinator and the Idaho West Area Team President, used an idea with the local Lighthouse that came from Kristen Cummins, VP of Financial Development on the CA Southwest Area Team. Darcy Schumacher, VP of Public Relations on the Nevada North/California High Sierra Area Team told Beth that Headquarters would want to turn this into a story for the web so others could use the idea. Don’t you love how connected Aglow groups are?

Beth said, “Our plan was to have a time of ministry for everyone and that each person would have the opportunity to be a minister of God’s Grace.”

Each person chose a card. On the card were questions or a thought that came out of one of Janes’ devotional books, He Calls You the Beloved, volume I or II. The back of the card told which volume it came from. As each person read their card out loud, they then shared their response with the group.

Beth said, “The results were amazing. Everyone received prayer. For some, the prayer was healing, others confirmation, and others, hope.”

Be brave and try something new in your Lighthouse meetings rather than have a speaker each month. Use a Fireside Chat. Get Jane’s devotional books and make your own cards to use. When you take the time to do something different, it promotes relationship amongst the group. They get to know each other as they hear both the question and the answer. It reveals heart and opens the way for people to be known, to see their passions, and to find their strengths and weaknesses. Then God will touch each person and no one will ever be the same!

Let us know how it works in your group! Tell us your story

What a great idea! The depth of relationship among our sisters in Aglow is a lifelong love! I just reunited yesterday with my Aglow sisters in California after 30 + years. We started a Temecula, California Lighthouse (although it wasn’t called Lighthouse in those days) back in 1978. I will use this great idea when we meet again!

The wisdom contained in the hearts of these precious sisters is profound. Aglow was our learning place about ministry, the power of Holy Spirit in our lives and the precious presence of the Lord in our worship. We are battle marked but not weary! We have walked through many challenges, but each one of us testified of the faithfulness of the Lord. Love you Beth! Miss you like crazy!

In northern Alberta, Canada, our area team facilitates a weekly bible study. We recently asked ladies from the group that are not in leadership to provide scripture at each meeting. So far each one has given a detailed account of the meaning of the scripture and how it has impacted them. We also started asking some ladies to facilitate the study(not the meeting just the bible study that has been prepared) which gives everyone a chance to lead and use their gifts. It’s been amazing having members stepping up and giving us leaders a break. Newcomers always say “this is such a safe place to share and everyone is so open and honest”

I moved from Chicago and had been President of a Community Lighthouse there then moved to Florida 2 years ago and got acquainted with the President of East Central Florida. I started a neighborhood Lighthouse 1 1/2 years ago In Ormond Beach Florida. Even though I know I would open my house if it was just me and the Holy Spirit, we do usually get 9 women. I felt led to open my house under Aglow Ministries and have a night of prayer soaking. It’s been going now for 2 months. This month there were 4 of us. Feet were washed, it was so intimate. So that is the Ormond Beach Outreach.
