Jr. Zip Code Captains

(Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10)

Some might think that children won’t grasp the importance of praying or even how to pray. Others might think that to expect children to be committed to a cause is not realistic, yet Helen Joy Duperree, State Prayer Coordinator of Pennsylvania, has found the younger generations to be extremely committed to this God idea of reaching out to prepare the generations below her so they know who they are in Christ and they know who God is to them in every situation they face.

The members of the Zip Code Club who range in ages between 3-12 pray together each Thursday from 7 to 7:15 pm by phone. They are hearing and discerning God’s Voice to them.

Originally, Helen Joy felt stirred to reach out to the grandchildren of Aglow women she knew that had gone to Heaven during the pandemic. As she took a trip by bus, she met with many and told them of Holy Spirit reminding her of their grandmothers who left a legacy for them to walk in, that they were important, and really, the generations coming up beneath them were depending on them to point them in the right direction spiritually. Now these millennials have taken their place on the wall in Pennsylvania as Zip Code Captains who are leading the Thursday night prayer calls. Not only are they leading the great-grandchildren of their grandmothers, they are discovering God’s plans and purposes for their own lives.

One Thursday, one of the members was at a swimming party with friends. When this member realized the time, she left the party to take her place on the wall on the call.

Another member was living in a shelter with her dad. On one Thursday prayer call other members prayed for her to get a home. Now, she and her father are getting their own place.

Another member was rushed to the emergency room with pain in the stomach. The doctors thought it was her appendix, but as the Zip Code Club prayed, it was discovered that it was not the appendix, but another situation with a quick remedy. God hears their prayers and He is answering them!

Helen Joy said, “As each member participates, God is teaching them to lead as they discover God’s plans for their lives. I am confident that the Jr. Captains will soon be taking their places, leading on the calls, too. Not only is God building up the state of Pennsylvania, He is equipping an army of young Samuels who are being trained to hear the Voice of the Lord. They are the ones who will be taking our places in Aglow in the future. Let’s rejoice and be glad for He is raising more laborers to take their places in Lighthouse groups.”

Stay tuned for part 7 about the Zip Code Club in Pennsylvania. As God gives you creative ideas of how to reach the generations below you, we would love to hear what you are doing.
