Last December a team of 6 prayer warriors from the Northeast Region journeyed to Washington, DC to pray, proclaim, and intercede for the nation. Diane Caliendo, New York Central Aglow Area President writes, “I believe that our small team from the Northeast Region accomplished more in the Spirit than any of us realized.”
The theme scripture for the trip was Nehemiah 1:11 “O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” Diane writes, “The team heard from the Lord that He wanted us to shake off oppression and the things that hold us back because we have a voice, and we need to be heard.”
The prayer journey began with a three hour tour of the city during which the team declared healing and restoration over Washington, DC. They also prayed that the walls would be rebuilt as Nehemiah rebuilt the walls.
In the following days, the team prayed at the Capitol Prayer Chapel, the room where Congress meets, another room where government officials convene, and other significant places. They also met with a representative from the International Israel Allies Caucus, a group who works with Congress and parliaments around the world to get political support for Israel based on Judeo-Christian values. The representative expressed her thanks to Aglow for the impact that we have promoting and praying for Israel and the Jewish people.
The team also met with Deborah Weiss. Diane writes, “Deborah speaks out at interfaith gatherings and says that most people genuinely desire to be informed of truth. She stated to us that religious freedom is a right guaranteed in our constitution, but also that free speech comes with responsibilities. We should enforce law responsibly but she emphasized that there should be no hampering of the free press. Deborah made the point that some in our nation are taking religious freedom and turning it to enact censorship. She encouraged us to be part of the solution not part of the problem.”
Due to inclement weather, some of the scheduled meetings were canceled, but the team used the opportunity to pray and praise in their hotel room. In spite of the various cancelled events, the team felt they had a successful trip and were encouraged with the appointments they were able to keep.
Diane writes, “We came away from this trip sensing more urgency for prayer, but also as a three-stranded cord we can handle anything with God's strength and power. We all are looking forward to working together again, shaking the enemy’s territory, and having victory with Jesus.”
