On President’s Day, a team of 7 Aglow prayer warriors went to Richmond, Virginia, carrying His Presence, and declaring the Word of the Lord and the Goodness of the Lord over the capital city, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the nation.
As Janice Newcomb, Mary Royster, Sandra Strange, Susan St. Clair, Janice Myers, Patty Jordan, and Betty Thomas prepared for their time of Capital Prayer in Richmond, the Lord began to speak to them out of the book of Joshua giving them direction for the journey.
The team arrived in Richmond Sunday evening opening their time together with a celebration of communion. Sandra Strange read a declaration declaring the Lordship of Jesus and Life Union with Him. The team proclaimed in faith that:
- This is a year of Open Doors; doors of provision, prosperity, healing and deliverance.
- God is going to do marvelous things in 2014!
- We live with a new standard of expectation of God’ Goodness.
- Love-based expectation is our reality.
- God’s goodness is released over families for household salvation.
- The prodigals are coming home and revival is upon us.
After the proclamations, the team took turns reading the names of every Virginia senator and delegate asking the Lord to manifest Himself to them. The team then prayed and proclaimed the Word of the Lord with scriptures that came to their hearts.
The following day began with a meeting with a Virginia Delegate. The team inquired about an issue currently before the courts concerning the Virginia law which states that marriage is between a man and a woman. The delegate has been vocal on the issue, frequently speaking out and writing articles. Janice Newcomb writes, He allowed us to pray for him, and Mary Royster prayed a beautiful prayer that God would anoint to him to be God’s mouthpiece.
As the team began walking through the capitol building, they approached an area where the walls were lined with portraits of great men and women who made great contributions to the founding of Virginia. The group stopped there and freely spoke out prayers and proclamations.
As they continued walking through the building, they declared of the Goodness of the Lord in different rooms and hallways. Patty Jordan pulled up scriptures on her phone reading them out loud while the team agreed and made declarations.
The team was privileged to sit in the balcony as the Senate Session was opened. They were given a document of the bills that would be heard during the second half of the General Session.
Janice writes, The Virginia Capitol building is very beautiful. One of the receptionists shared with us at length how the capital has undergone extensive renovations, including how many layers of paint were removed just to get back to the original paint color. We rejoiced that our Heavenly Father gave all He had to get us back to His original plan and intent for us. The receptionist also shared that when the underground entrance to the capital was being dug out, they would not throw away any of the soil because of its value, as the beginning of the nation was on Virginia soil.
After this, the 7 members of the team gathered around a life-sized statue of George Washington, and each one spoke out a declaration. They decided that this would be an appropriate place to dedicate the City of Richmond to the Lord, so they began speaking forth declarations that Jesus Christ is King and Lord, asking that the people of the land will be like Him, and that they will know the Goodness of the Lord. The team called for a re-digging of the wells of salvation that were opened up in this city many years ago. They thanked God for giving them the land. Then they dedicated the land back to the Lord, praying that the people and the government would be good stewards.
As the prayer tour was coming to a close, the team went outside to stand before a plaque where a tribute is being constructed to Virginia’s Indian Tribes. The team stood before the plaque acknowledging that the Indians were the first on Virginia soil. They gave thanks for their leadership and sacrifices made. Even before European settlement, Virginia’s Indians governed themselves through tribal councils, a form of representative government older than the General Assembly. Today, the Commonwealth of Virginia officially recognizes eleven Indian tribes: the Cheroenhaka, Chickahominy, Chickahominy—Eastern Division, Monacan, Nansemond, Nottoway, Pamunkey, Mattaponi, Upper Mattoponi, Patawomeck and Rappahannock.
As they drove home Sandra Strange led the team in an old hymn, All Hail the Power of Jesus Name declaring the lyrics over the capital city, Richmond, Virginia, and over America.
