This year the California Aglow Prison Ministry celebrated 30 years of ministry making the 2014 retreat a very special event! Women came from all over California to attend.
Jill Meskimen, Area President writes,
We started off Friday night with a skit put on by the Spanish Team based on the poem ‘Vessel of Honor’. The worship that followed was the perfect way to open our hearts to God’s love and purposes to prepare us for the weekend. Then a message was given about being approved, honor, dishonor, vows and oaths we may have taken.
The Saturday morning worship opened up with songs that are still ringing in our hearts. It was wonderful! Our speaker continued with her vibrant teaching on ‘A Vessel for Honor’ speaking on the woman at the well and our identity.
Saturday afternoon we had our favorite event, the Grad Testimonies. Grads are women who have been incarcerated and continue walking with Jesus on the outside after they have been released. We have Grads who have been with Aglow from the beginning in 1984, right up to a woman who was just paroled a few weeks before our retreat. These testimonies are proof that the Lord changes lives and does miracles!
Saturday night was a night to remember. We were led into a time of repentance, reflection, getting real with our ‘stuff’, and learning how to forgive ourselves. We let the Lord put us on His Potter’s Wheel to center us, empty us and make us into the useful women He desires. There were many tears, much healing, a call to receive the Holy Spirit in power, and a call to see ourselves as Jesus sees us… beautiful.
Sunday morning was a time of Holy Communion and Jesus Love pouring out on all of us. This truly was a special time ‘set aside’. We were all forever changed.
