Our Generations Leader in Sri Lanka, Ruvani Desinghe, shares how her Generations Group reached out to help those in need after one of their worst maritime disasters. It’s such a blessing to hear how the Aglow family meets the needs of those hurting around them. We bring the light and hope of Jesus everywhere we go. Every nation touched, every heart changed.
In May 2021, a maritime disaster occurred in Sri Lanka caused by an uncontrollable fire on board the vessel “MV Express Pearl” leading to its subsequent sinking. The leakage of its chemical cargo into our ocean waters led experts to call it the worst maritime disaster in the history of Sri Lanka. The crippling effects of this on the marginal fishing community was both acute and persistent.
Burdened by the Holy Spirit, and with the blessings and support of the Aglow National Board, the Aglow Generations Group mobilized to conduct a prayer walk for the restoration of the ocean waters and the livelihoods of affected fisher folk.
Soon afterwards, a distribution of essential rations packs was conducted among the fishing community and daily wage earners of the area who were struggling as a result of the frequent lockdowns owing to Covid -19. The community we were led to assist was from the Modera Area.
The willing and generous donations of the Aglow families enabled us to present dry ration packs to 365 needy families who were deeply appreciative and blessed beyond measure.
All glory to God for his Grace and Goodness that enabled and empowered us in this venture.
The LORD upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry… Psalm 146:7
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat……for I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine you did for me. Mathew 25:35-40
