Child with arms raised
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6

Prayer breaks chains and gives favor that is supernatural. It enables rescue and puts people in the right place at the right time.

In the next few newsletters I want to address a growing issue in trafficking – one that is rightfully gaining more and more attention:  Demand for sex trafficking.

In his article What The Johns Don’t Want To Hear, journalist and advocate Victor Malarek speaks out about what buyers really believe about the girls they visit:

What Johns want to believe is the lie that somehow, magically, a woman is suddenly struck with the idea that prostitution would be a rewarding and wonderful career path!…That these young women and girls enjoy servicing a half dozen or more strange, doughy, smelly, sweaty, middle-aged, bozos on Viagra because it’s a good paying job!

And it’s because of all the lies, the propaganda and absurd myths perpetuated by the prostitution legalization lobby, that the situation for tens of millions of impoverished and vulnerable women and children worldwide is getting worse.

And he’s right.  Somehow a lie has pervaded our culture that says, “these women, these girls, these boys, they want to do this.  It’s their choice, and while it’s a bad one, they made it.  Respect their decision.”  And what a lie that is.  While there are definitely professional sex workers who choose this profession willingly, the majority, far and wide, does not.  The majority of prostitutes did not start out saying this was what they wanted.  They have been affected by all sorts of factors:

  • Poverty
  • Homelessness
  • Physical or sexual abuse at a young age
  • Being sold into the industry – even in the U.S.
  • And the huge normalization the selling of sex has an effect on our culture.

It is critical that we address this aspect of demand – because if there is no one to buy sex, sex can’t really be sold.  This article by Cindy McCain also speaks about the importance of changing our mindsets regarding purchasing sex.  I encourage you to read both articles from Cindy McCain and Victor Malarek and share them. Addressing demand is the next frontier of anti-trafficking.

Finally, let me encourage you to pray over your community – your family, friends, neighborhood, church, and city.  Let's pray to stop demand - even before it starts.  Pray for God’s righteousness to flood over you and change your community.  With God all things are possible.

Maryland Aglow State Prayer Coordinator, Barbara Potts, shares an encouraging insight:

From my early morning prayer spot in my prayer room I can see the Lighthouse across the dark water at Fort Washington blinking red - off and on... reminding me of our post as watchmen - those who watch and pray to thwart danger and evil as the dawn breaks on a new day...

Let us proclaim:

  • The victory of justice over lawlessness
  • The authority of God's Law across our land
  • The majesty and Lordship of Jesus our King

For the Lord is our Judge, The Lord is our Lawgiver, The Lord is our King; He will save us... Isaiah 33:22

Reminder:  Send Cards by October 1st

Send an encouraging card to children in a Safe House by October 1st.  Send cards to Aglow Int’l, Attn: Anti-Trafficking.  It’s as simple as “God has a great plan for your life.  Love, your name.”  If you can, include a picture with your card so the children can see who is praying for them.
