Daughter of the King, an event organized by Aglow Generations Sri Lanka for young girls between the ages of 18-35 was held at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo in November. In her welcome speech, Ruvani Desinghe, Director of Aglow Generations Sri Lanka warmly welcomed 45 participants. We introduced Aglow International which was birthed in 1967 in Seattle, Washington, and has since been affiliated in over 170 nations of the world.
Aglow International Sri Lanka was birthed in 1979 by our founding President, Mrs. Sylvia Weerasinghe. It was her vision to seek out the younger generation and help them discover their true identity in Christ. This mantle was passed on to our current National President, Mrs. Vasanthi Jayawardene who also has a tremendous burden and passion to reach out to the younger generation. The event, Daughter of the King, was a result of that vision.
A time of worship by the Aglow Generations choir led by Jessica Krause preceded the testimony of Claudette Almeida, Vice President of Administration of the National Board. Possessing 25 years of experience in the film industry, Claudette shared how her life and her priorities were rearranged when she opened her home for Aglow meetings and she observed the godly lifestyle of the women. Her life was totally transformed when she encountered Jesus Christ and He became number one in her life. She surrendered her life to Christ and thus began her journey with the Lord in Aglow.
Shehana Witharana, Vice President of Leadership Training of the National Board, shared how she left her banking career to pursue God’s call upon her life. Having served as president of a local chapter, she was invited to join the National Board. She spoke on “Walking in God’s timeline.” This was followed by a question and answer session.
The participants were grateful that such a timely and relevant event had been organized on their behalf. It made them realize that they need to draw closer to Jesus and make Him the number one priority in their lives. They also understood that God has a specific plan for each one of their lives which is far greater than their self-centered goals and ambitions. They learned what it means to find their true identity in Christ and not from the value systems of the world. They expressed a desire to participate in similar sessions in the future which they believe would enable them to have a closer walk with Christ.
Aglow Generations Director, Ruvani Desinghe along with the Generations choir sang one of her compositions which speaks of our identity in Christ. The lyrics are based on Isaiah 43: 1 -2. “Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, you are Mine.’
One of the stanzas reads like this, “Broken and bruised You called out My Name, I was lost and I was hurting and You came, You paid the price, I can’t comprehend, Your love so amazing, paved the way.”
Holy Spirit moved powerfully cascading and flowing like a refreshing river touching the minds and lives of the young ladies. He released them from fear, insecurity, a lack of self-worth, and an emptiness within. It is our prayer that God would raise up a generation that would set their hearts on Jesus and seek after Him.
One generation commends Your works to another, they tell of Your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of Your Majesty and I will meditate on Your wonderful works. - Psalm 145:4-5
