On Monday December 12 we learned of the terrible accident that had taken place in Uyo, Nigeria the day before. On Sunday, December 11, 2016 as hundreds of people filled a newly built church building for the ordination of a bishop, the roof of the church collapsed trapping scores of people under collapsed metal girders and contorted corrugated iron sheeting.
It has been reported that more than 160 people were killed. Knowing there are Aglow members who live in this area, International department staff at Aglow headquarters wrote to the Aglow Nigeria national president, Bisi Adeluyi, to convey our concern and ask if any of the Aglow family were injured in the accident. Bisi responded within hours with this reply:
Greetings in Jesus precious name
Thank you so much for your concern for our safety and well-being.
That collapsed Church Building is located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, South-East of Nigeria. Uyo was where we held our National Conference in 2014.
The Area President of SE 3 Uyo Victoria Imoh Uko and a number of Aglow women from the zone were inside the church when it collapsed. I spoke with the Area President that very day and she told me that they all escaped unhurt! It is a mighty miracle for us all. None of the steel beams or any part of the roof fell on them.
Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124, 6-7
Christmas blessings to the entire Aglow family
Warm greetings from all of us in Aglow International, Nigeria
Once more, Thank you
We join Bisi and Aglow Nigeria in thanks to God for this mighty miracle of sparing the Aglow members who were involved in this awful accident. And we pray for the families who lost loved ones in the same tragedy.
