Shelly Morales, President of the South Texas Area Team, began a prayer meeting last school year with the teachers and administration of her school district. Many problems were surfacing in the school and nothing the administration did seemed to make a difference. However, as those in authority began to pray, the atmosphere began to change. Great strides where made in Shelly’s homeroom class with several leaders in the school receiving salvation. At the end of the school year though, the students who were saved were gone to a new school and a new group of students were in her homeroom class.
One day, an 8th grade student in her new classroom collapsed from what appeared to be side effects from a previous serious ATV accident. He was unresponsive and had very labored breathing. All of the students had to leave the classroom until the ambulance arrived 30 minutes later.
After the ambulance left, the students came back to the classroom and were very shaken by the incident. Shelly told the class that they needed to pray for the student together. She said, “I wasn’t going to force them and told them that they could pray silently as God was listening. I would never have expected what was about to happen.”
“We bowed our heads and the most sincere praying I have ever heard began to come forth from these 8th grade students. A girl who had just laughed in my face because I told her that she was created for more than sex and that sex was intended for marriage, poured out her heart as tears flowed down her face. A basketball star, who some say has fathered two children while in middle school, put his head down and prayed longer than anyone. Even after I said, ‘In Jesus’ Name, amen,’ most continued to pray.”
“Jesus is very real to them right now. Pray that I would know how to communicate Jesus to them in the coming days.”
Note: Shelly has received permission from the administration to begin an Aglow meeting in the school for the students. Pray for her as she begins.
