Diversity, Unity, and Destiny

Bouquet of FlowersAt an Aglow Board meeting in South Africa, where the national board and area board members were present, an object lesson was presented that demonstrates an important dynamic of Aglow in the nations of the world.

One of the board members brought a bunch of flowers to the meeting consisting of many different colors and textures.  All of the variations in color and texture bunched together made an exquisite bouquet giving off an amazing perfume.

The lesson the Lord had prompted her with, was that it was the diversity within the bunch she held that made it so beautiful.  The purple flower was not more elegant than the white; the yellow was not to be more dominant than the orange, etc.

An excerpt from the minutes of the meeting said, “As ladies within Aglow Leadership we are all different: different in color, different in talent, different in calling, different and unique before God and one another.”

“It is time to allow God to hold us together as one, not only in purpose, humility, and love, but also in our unique callings, supporting one another, and holding each other up to be the best God has called us to be.  It is time for each of us to choose to walk in the footsteps of the Lord in love and servant hood.”

“Let us always remember the picture of the bunch of flowers just allowing themselves to be held close to one another to make a pleasing picture of unity, and giving off an fragrant aroma.   As we link together like that bunch of flowers, working together and loving one another, Aglow will rise up as a formidable force in reaching out to the hurting, lost, desperate, women, children and families.  This is our mission field.   This is the only way we can fulfill our destiny as Aglow.  He has chosen us for the work of God in this vineyard.   We can only do it together.”

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity...for there the Lord commanded the blessing — life forevermore. Psalm 133
